December 2004 - Where Else But Downtown? The Charlottesville Community Design Center hosted an exhibit produced by the Charlottesville Downtown Business Association (DBAC), entitled “Where Else But Downtown?� The exhibit was the result of a photography contest entered by local professional photographers given the task of taking pictures of downtown scenes over a limited two week time period.  November 2004 - See-Ville In October, city residents met with volunteers from CCDC to take walking tours of 18 different city neighborhoods. Along the route, CCDC volunteers and neighborhood representatives photographed the major and minor sights within each neighborhood’s boundaries: people, homes, apartments, gardens, streets, anchoring institutions and businesses, which make up the fabric of each unique Charlottesville locality. October 2004 - City Play CCDC partnered with a neighborhood group, Friends of McGuffey Park, and the 2004 UVA Landscape Architecture Benjamin C. Howland Memorial Design Competition to develop redesign plans for McGuffey Park. The competition was held in two parts, beginning on September 18th. In part one, landscape architecture students participated in a design workshop held at CCDC, which explored ideas of play with community members of all ages. In part two, the students designed proposals for the park. September 2004 - Block Party On September 3rd, CCDC opened its doors & hosted a “BLOCK PARTY�. The party marked the inception of the design center, while introducing CCDC to the public. The music, lighting, films, slide show and the space looked great and set a fantastic tone for the year ahead. Attendance estimates ranged between 300 to 500 people. The design center was comfortably packed all night, with food and beverages, meeting and greeting, and a dance party with live DJs.
