traditional First Fridays openings at many downtown Charlottesville art
galleries. All CCDC monthly exhibits and First Fridays opening receptions are

February 2006 – Neighborhood Stories & P-SPECT: The Place I Live A dual media exhibit featuring Neighborhood Stories, a documentary series by Light House
that investigates the changing shape of Charlottesville, from the point
of view of adolescents living in some of the city’s most challenged
neighborhoods. Also, P-SPECT: The Place I Live, an exhibit of

neighborhood, which shares their unique perspective on where they are

April 2006 – ARTchitecture : An Exhibition and Silent Auction
The development and communication of architectural design requires
diagrams, sketches, and study models, in addition to finished drawings.
These media are tools used to communicate a larger vision, yet are also
often artful compositions on their own with intrinsic beauty and
meaning. This exhibition and silent auction features such work -
drawings, mixed-media collage, photography, and 3-D work - by students
and faculty at UVA’s School of Architecture. ................................................................................................. May 2006 - CCDC Celebration + Exhibit On April 22, CCDC and friends celebrated the design center's year and a half anniversary with an evening fundraiser, dance party, and silent auction. Local artists and designers donated
beautiful, one-of-a-kind lamps, lights and fixtures, which were
auctioned and exhibited through the month of May. CCDC is grateful for
everyone who helped make this night a huge success. We thank you for
your continual support.
................................................................................................ June 2006 - Artivism The Charlottesville Waldorf Foundation (CWF)
has embarked on a journey to educate our children and our world about
the importance of environmental stewardship, conservation of natural
resources and innovation by building the new Charlottesville Waldorf
School, a Platinum LEED building and the greenest school in America.
CWF invited 37 remarkable local artists to engage our community in
envisioning a cleaner, greener and healthier tomorrow.
June 2006 - Structure & Scale As part of their study of science, fourth graders at the
Charlottesville Peabody School explore architecture, learning the
definitions of structure and scale, the rationale for understanding the
concepts, and the relationships between ancient
and modern structures. As a culminating project, Peabody fourth graders
research, build to scale, and present famous modern buildings. This
year's models will be on display at CCDC from June 23rd to July 3, 2006. .................................................................................... June 2006 - Neighborhood Plan Release Party The
City of Charlottesville and CCDC celebrated the release of all 18
Charlottesville neighborhood plans with an evening reception, and
week-long exhibit, June 23rd to July 3, 2006. These plans were the result of Neighborhood Design Day -- “In Our Backyard -- a series of public meetings held at 6 locations throughout the city, which officially launched the 2006 Comprehensive Plan Process.................................................................................................. July 2006 - Building Goodness Foundation (BGF)
Within a week after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast,
Charlottesville-based BGF mobilized volunteers to help the underserved
town of Pearlington, Mississippi, rebuild. BGF has completed numerous
trips and built 120 shelters over the past 10 months. Yet, much more
needs to be done. BGF continues to work in the area, pledging to remain
until the people of Pearlington regain their community.
August 2006 - Meade Park Design Collaboration In April 2006, the Charlottesville Parks and Recreation Department contracted with CCDC to facilitate a community design
process for Meade Park. Before spending money on costly renovations, the
City Council sought to engage surrounding neighborhoods and local
designers in a process that would determine the goals and vision
for the park. Sketches, reports and the
final two design proposals will be on exhibit at CCDC during the month of
August.
September/October 2006 - What is Neighborhood? Design Competition Stonehaus, Inc. and CCDC developed a local invited design competition that sought
models of neighborhood-centered, mixed-use development that demonstrate
green development principles and create vital public spaces. The
purpose of the competition was to facilitate dialogue and create models of a civic core that contributes to the
experience of a neighborhood using Belvedere, a 700 unit planned
community developed by Stonehaus, as a case study. >>read more
November/December 2006 - What is Sustainability? City, County, UVA & You This exhibit detailed practices and programs within our area’s three largest institutions: City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County governments, and the University of Virginia, that are striving for sustainability.
